keepers of truth
knotted pinkie fingers
a silent 'shhh' with an index finger
grasping another, placing your trust in the meeting of palms
and the clenching of fingers
you cover your mouth
you promise not to tell
dealers of love
holding each other so tight
you move your calloused fingers down her face
you press against her back
drawing her closer to you
you place the cold metal on her finger
you promise to love her forever
a world of promises held in a tiny band
symbols of compassion
soothing a baby's cry with a stroke
you feel their tiny fingernails on your lips, tangled in your hair
you lift a burden, and hold a heavy heart
you gently wipe away tears that stain porcelain cheeks
service and deeds creating callouses and strength
endowing others with strength of their own
